About Chocolate Covered Boy Joy
My name is Monica Utsey and I'm very passionate about everything I do, especially the education of my little King-Men ( a name coined by my husband) and prelude to what we believe will be. My boys, ages 9 and 3, keep me busy and demand that I see things through the lens of boyhood. What an adventure and an education itself! It requires me to be patient, open, and accepting of our differences. I'm also a writer, arts lover, home school mom, Montessori lover, and blog fanatic. In all of my reading, I discovered slim pickings among blogs dedicated to the education of African American boys. While many of the blogs that I read are very useful and extremely creative, none cater to the unique needs and challenges of ensuring the academic success of African-American boys. Over the years, I have become a "go to source" for many moms in the areas of education in general and home schooling specifically. I thought it was time to not only chronicle my experiences as a home educator for more than five years, but to also create a place where moms can find relevant information to help them in the journey toward growing boys into men. I plan to post resources, activity ideas, curriculum recommendations, enrichment programs, rites of passage programs, interviews, great articles and a little bit about our home schooling fun. I look forward to serving you.
